AMR 120 Babysitter’s Training
Schedule: 6 weeks, August 20 – September 24
Fees: $40 materials cost; Payment Cash or Checks (made out to American Red Cross)
Course Description: The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitters’ Training course is to provide individuals, ages 11-15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. First Aid Certification is good for 3 years, and the Babysitters Training Certification has no expiration date. This training will help participants develop skills in the following areas:
- Leadership
- Professionalism
- Basic Care
- Safety and safe play
- First Aid
The following are a few of the learning objectives designed for the course:
· Interviewing for a babysitting job
· Decision making
· Problem solving
· Emergency action steps
Students will demonstrate the following:
- How to pick up and infant
- How to pick up and carry a toddler
- How to bottle feed a infant
- How to burp a infant
- How to feed a infant or toddler
- How to diaper a infant or toddler
Students will also receive certification in:
- How to check a conscious infant or toddler
- How to recognize a breathing emergency
- Proper care for a choking infant or toddler
- Rescue breathing for a infant or toddler
- Identify bleeding and wounds
- Controlling bleeding
- Basic first aid knowledge

Instructor: Randi Lanz. Randi Lanz is a former EMT and Instructor for several American Red Cross courses. Health, safety, and fitness are her main interests. Randi also oversees the fitness program for the Vision of Hope ladies and teaches group fitness classes at Faith Community Center.

LS 140 Introduction to American Sign Language
Schedule: 8 weeks, August 20 – October 8
Fees: $25 materials cost
Course Description: This is designed for those who would like to begin learning American Sign Language and about communicating with the deaf. This class will focus primarily on building vocabulary while incorporating beginning ASL grammar.

Instructor: Anni Welborne. Anni Welborne is a licensed teacher of the deaf and a Developmental Therapist. Anni serves as the coordinator of the Deaf Ministry at Faith Baptist. Anni is a certified Sign with Your Baby® instructor.

LS 142 Signing with Your Toddler
Schedule: 6 weeks, October 15 – November 19
Fees: $10 materials cost
Course Description: This class is designed for parents and caregivers of hearing and special needs children ages 6 months to 3 years to gain understanding of the use of American Sign Language with their children. ASL gives children the skills to communicate long before their little mouths can talk, thereby alleviating frustration and enhancing relationships. Parents will learn the why and how of signing with children, over 100 signs, and strategies for easily incorporating signs into daily life. Class is for adults only.

LS 124 Informed, In Touch, & In Control
Schedule: 5 weeks, August 20 – September 17

Course Description: Pop culture meets parenting meets technology. Today's entertainment and communications options are nearly endless, as is the kind of content they bring to your home. Learn about modern trends in movies, music, Internet, and games, and see live demonstrations of the tools at your disposal for controlling their use in your home. Topics covered include ratings systems in television, movies, and games; technologies for blocking selected content in movies and Internet use; monitoring Internet and game use; legal vs. illegal music services; social networking (Facebook, MySpace); and more.

Instructors: Mark Zwolanek and Brian Nicholson. Mark Zwolanek is a network support technician and writes videogame reviews for Digital Entertainment News. Brian Nicholson has worked as an information technology specialist since 2000, and currently serves as Faith’s IT Manager.

PG 204 The Dating Game
Schedule: 6 weeks, October 15 – November 19
Fees: $15 materials cost
Course Description: Do you have questions about relationships? Are you confused by all the mixed messages? How do you handle the issue of commitment? God is a God of relationships and has given us principles for this area as well. Those interesting in stopping the hurtful dating game and seriously striving to find a better way to conduct a relationship with the opposite sex leading to marriage will benefit from this class.

Instructor: Jonathan Barrett. Jonathan Barrette is husband and father of three. He currently serves in the Career Class by leading a men's Bible Study and assisting with the teaching. Jonathan holds an MBA from Krannert School of Management.
