FBCM began in 1977 by Pastor Bill Goode and Dr. Bob Smith in an effort to evangelize the lost and to disciple believers with principles from the Scriptures.

The ministry began rather humbly in the basement of church.  However, as time went on folks from the community and surrounding area realized the people were genuinely changing and getting the help they so desperately needed. 

At the same time that the community influence began, Pastor Goode had a deep desire to help missionaries with their problems.  In time, it was clear that God was blessing both ministries and it would not be long before structural changes need to be met to meet the requests.

 

Over the next several years additional counselors were added to the counseling team and a small conference named the "missionary conference" started.  During this time, training on Monday's began.  An eleven week training program was developed for pastors and lay leaders to help them develop their own counseling ministries in their churches.  Faith Baptist Church moved from the downtown area where it was landlocked to a spacious location just outside Lafayette proper.  God ensured an explosion of growth in the church and the counseling ministry.

What had begun with a simple desire to minister the Word of God to hurting people had turned into a three pronged counseling ministry (counseling to the church and community, counseling training on Mondays, and the missionary conference).  It is hard to believe how richly God has blessed this ministry.
