Red Cross Disaster Shelter

Faith Community Red Cross Disaster Shelter uses our facilities and volunteers to support the Red Cross when in the midst of a natural disaster and needing to provide shelter the victims. When needed, we open our facilities to become the local Red Cross Disaster Shelter. This usually happens during snow or ice storms, flooding, or tornados. When this happens, the Red Cross brings a trailer onsite with cots, bedding and other supplies (this will eventually be stored onsite in the new barn). We set up various rooms, depending on the need to accommodate those needing shelter. Ice and thunderstorms that cause major power outages, or catastrophic weather that closes the interstate, apartment building fires that leave tenants homeless are some of the times when we convert to a shelter capacity. Volunteers function as assistants to the Red Cross, and care providers to the victims in need of food and shelter. Volunteers’ contact information is maintained in a database, and are notified when needed.   For more information contact Michelle Hardy at maxmoo11@hotmail.com or contact the Red Cross www.tippearc.org.
