Mission Statement
As a ministry of Faith Baptist Church, Faith Christian School is dedicated to assisting Christian parents in fulfilling their God-given responsibility of training their children by providing a godly atmosphere that equips students to grow both academically and spiritually in order to serve God effectively in their home, church, and community.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus
Philippians 2:5
History
After years of praying and planning, the membership of Faith Baptist Church started Faith Christian School in 1997. The school committee, Pastor Bill Goode, Steve Viars, Dr. Dan Wickert, and Mr. Dale Davidson hired Mr. Bob Leffew as school administrator. Mr. Leffew and his wife Joan had a 21-year history in Christian school administration.
The school opened its first year with 48 students in grades 9-12. 7th and 8th grades were added in our 2nd year (1998/99) raising our student population to 81. The K3-6th grades were added during our 4th year (2000/01) bringing our student population to 314.
In August of 2001 Kossuth Street Baptist Church’s Highland Christian School merged with Faith Christian School for the following reasons:
· To demonstrate love and unity by a public joint venture, honoring God as each church gave up some individuality for the sake of a mutual project.
· To advance Christian education through an orderly transition of the resources of the two schools.
· To bear one another’s burdens by helping each other in both short and long term ways.
In order to accommodate the increase in population brought on by the merger (491), Faith built an additional 20,000 sq. ft. to its present facility allowing for an additional 15 classrooms and the ability to have two sections of each grade.
The Lord has continued to bless, FCS by allowing consistent student growth an exceptional faculty and staff, and church leadership that supports the school by continuously challenging us to grow in our love for God and others.
Philosophy
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8: 32
Realizing that God has given the authority to the Christian home to train up successful young people, we at Faith Christian School endeavor to assist parents in the training process.
…bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
· We endeavor to present each subject area in light of the principles within the Word of God. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Proverbs 1:7 …learn not the way of the heathen. Jeremiah 10:2.
· We must stress a Biblical worldview in the vital areas of life, sin, spiritual growth, self discipline and communication.
· We desire to train each student to accept individual responsibility before God for his actions and to challenge him to glorify God in every facet of his life.
· We desire to minister to the needs of the whole child and to promote his spiritual and moral growth, academic and intellectual progress and physical and social development.
· Academically, we desire to have a high bar that stretches every student and a safety net for students who are trying their best.
· Spiritually, we desire to reach the heart, not just have good behavior. We want students to please God whether or not authority is present.
· Socially, we want students to focus on others rather than themselves. God has designed us to be “givers” not “takers in order to be truly satisfied.
Doctrinal Statement of Faith
1. We believe the Bible is verbally inspired by God and inerrant in the original writing, and that it is supreme, sufficient, and the final authority in faith and life.
2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
3. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Father, born of the virgin, Mary, and is true God and true man.
4. We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and, thereby, incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is eternal separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and manifest themselves as sinners in thought, word, and deed.
5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified by grace alone, through faith alone on the grounds of His shed blood alone.
6. We believe in the resurrection and the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven, and in His present life there for us, as High Priest and Advocate.
7. We believe in "that blessed hope," the personal, pre-millennial, and imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
8. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become the children of God.
9. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost, and eternal fellowship with the Father by believers.
10. We believe that Biblical growth is a process whereby the believer through the power of the Holy Spirit, using His Scriptures, puts off old habits and grows in the likeness of Christ.
Goals
And Jesus increased in wisdom, and stature, and in favor with God and man.
Luke 2:52
Since Faith Christian School's goal is Christ likeness, there are four areas in a young person's life that we seek to develop.
Spiritually ~ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Colossians 3:16
· To lead each child to personal acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior
· To enrich the child's devotional life and to encourage students to make practical applications of Biblical principles learned through their devotions.
· To develop a well-balanced and Christ-like personality
· To develop within each student a Biblical worldview that sees all truth as God’s truth and all truth as unified rather than segmented
· To promote a servant-leadership mentality that views one’s gifts as instruments to serve, not dominate others.
· To awaken a realization that God has a purpose and plan for each life
· To instill a desire for knowledge, love and understanding of the Bible
· To help students understand the blessings of choosing to please God and the consequences of choosing to please oneself
· To install a sense of responsibility for the lost that will lead to a desire for creative and intelligent outreach
· To realize and apply the knowledge and understanding that the Bible has the answers for life and godliness
Mentally ~ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5
· To develop a mind-directed and not a feeling-directed life
· To develop a positive reaction to life
· To discover and develop individual aptitudes
· To cultivate analytical thinking and a priority-directed life
· To impart a command of common knowledge and skill
Socially ~ None of us lives for himself. Romans 14:7
· To instill a loyalty to Jesus Christ in all things and at all times
· To develop an understanding of the student's place and obligations in the family
· To help the child share his Christian responsibility as a citizen for the welfare of every group to which he belongs
· To awaken and foster missionary responsibility toward all men
Physically ~ Present your bodies a living sacrifice; unto God. Romans 12:1
· To develop a respect for the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit
· To teach intelligent care of the body
· To encourage the yielding of the body as an instrument for God's use
Affiliations
Faith Christian School is accredited by and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). FCS is also accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and a member of the Tippecanoe School Corporation through its "Free-way" program designed for non-public schools.
It is by these associations that we are able to further teacher development and remain abreast of current methods and materials. Our students also benefit by enhanced and varied opportunities to compete and cooperate with students from other Christian schools.
