Welcome to the Elementary Art WebPage...

I enjoy teaching the 4rth - 6th grade art very much.  Your children are so fun and excited about art.  We began the year with a little art history and cave paintings.  The children loved this and I thought the artwork turned out great.  After this, classes started having more of an individual sampling of projects.

4rth Grade

We talked about line and drew unlikely things in jars.  We also did an experimental drawing with me giving verbal instructions.  Each child followed these directions without looking at his neighbors work.  It was fun to see at the end of class how all of our drawings turned out so differently.  Some of us made cards for the local heros for the 9/11 chapel.  The servicemen were very touched by these gifts from your children.  We have learned about owls and made an owl reflection drawing.  We all designed our own t-shirts describing ourselves.  This was a great project that we all enjoyed.  Lastly, we have been working with warm/cool colors and positive/negative spaces.

5th Grade

We began doing insect drawings/paintings to go along with the science the fifth graders were covering.  This spanned over several classes.  The finished artwork is very nice.  Some will be entering their's in the Purdue Bug Bowl and FABA.  We all designed t-shirts describing ourselves.  Some of us have drawn perspective towns.  We have had a few interruptions because of ISTEP, Grandparent's Day, and Fall Break.  So one of the classes has not had as many opportunities as the other.  We have also worked on designs, using line and talking about the way line can describe many things, including  movement.  Finally, we started a symmetrical design.

6th Grade

We started with life drawing just to see how the children would do.  They had the choice to draw their shoes or the still life I had set up for the junior high.  We talked about line and shading.  Then we moved to perspective basics.  We spent three or four classes on this and did some very cool things.  We designed a town, worked on a falling objects in the city from a skyward view, and then we just had fun and created floating boxes and used our imaginations.  We are just finishing symmetrical designs.  This was a very colorful project.  Like the 5th graders, we have had many interuptions because of events out of our control so one class has not had the opportunities the other has.

FABA  The National Association of Christian Schools has a competition each year for the fine arts.  The elementary competition (4rth-6th grade) for the state will be held right here at Faith Christian School on January 31st - February 1st.  If your child has any work completed in the last year since the last competition, it may be entered.  I have the guidelines for those who want to help their child enter.  I am here after school on Mondays until 4:15 for any child who wants to work on their FABA projects.  I will offer advice and use of our supplies if desired.  Let me be of help to your child.

 A little about myself...

I am Mrs. Albaugh and married to Dan for 19 years now.  We have been blessed with three sons who are very precious to me.  My youngest began all day school this year and seeing it coming, I had hoped to dive into my artwork.  Little did I know what plans God had for my life!  Now here I am in a great teaching environment with children who are easy to love.  I attended Herron School of Art in Indianapolis and I have continued my education with local artists.  I love God, children and art so it is a wonderful blessing to be teaching here at Faith.  You may contact me at talbaugh@fcslafayette.org for any questions or concerns.
