Faith-Based Parent Mentor Training Class

Join us for a 3-session class March 28, April 4, and April 11.

A Faith-based Parent Mentor is a free service offered to parents involved with either the Department of Child Services or Probation due to their children being victims of abuse and neglect. A Parent Mentor works with the parent(s) to engage and befriend them during this difficult time. The mentor spends a minimum of 2 hours with the parent(s) each week with a commitment of 12 – 15 months in duration.

Opportunities to Serve

  • Mentor
  • Occasional serving at special events (Ex: provide food for a carry-in to a facility where these parents visit with their children.)
  • Teach a life skill class

Purpose

The mentor offers companionship, links the parent(s) to community resources, offers the parent(s) hope, provides group life skill classes, Bible Studies, or special events to the parent(s).

Goals

  • Provide support for the parents to reduce the risk of the children being harmed again.
  • Get the parent plugged into a church family and/or other community resource which can provide support.
  • Point them to the Lord who truly can provide stability for the family.
