Biblical Counseling Training Conference (BCTC) - 2012
Conference Dates and Times
The conference sign-in is Sunday, February 12, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. with the first session beginning at 6:00 p.m. The daily schedule is approximately 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with breaks for lunch and dinner. The conference concludes at noon on Friday, February 17.
Track Selection
All conference guests select one track to attend for the week. While we do not require attendees to select a particular track, we do have two significant recommendations:
- First, if you are new to biblical counseling then we strongly encourage you to attend Track 1. In this track we teach the foundational principles and the basic beliefs necessary to function as a biblical counselor.
- Second, we suggest that you take the tracks in order. The only exceptions to this are track 5 (NANC Exam Track) and track 6 (Case Study Track). Since NANC requires the training to be complete before the exams can be graded, we require all guests to attend Track One before taking Track Five.
In each of the first four tracks we discuss a wide range of issues. Even though some tracks will have more hours on a particular subject than another, all the tracks are designed in order to train a well-rounded counselor.
Track 1 - Foundations (Full for 2012. Please select another track or join the wait list.)
Track 1 begins laying the foundation of biblical counseling principles and practices, family relationships, and the Christian life. It is the foundational track and thus must be taken first. This is the track required for NANC certification.
Topics include:
- Key elements of biblical counseling
- What makes biblical counseling biblical
- Comparison of counseling philosophies
- Doctrine of spiritual growth
- Marriage roles and parenting
- Rules of communication
- Depression
- Forgiveness
- Anger, fear, and worry
- Video case observation
Track 2 - Adding the Structure I (Full for 2012. Please select another track or join the wait list.)
Tracks 2 and 3 are designed to add the structure to the foundation built in Track 1. Both tracks cover a wide range of subjects and concerns. Tracks 2 and 3 build off Track 1 to complete the all-important counseling framework for the equipped biblical counselor.
Topics include:
- Eating disorders
- Chemical imbalances, genetics, and hormones
- Freedom from life-dominating sin
- Pornography
- Handling problem people within the church
- Superiority of Bible answers
- Building spiritual maturity in others
- Biblical priorities
- Video case observation
Track 3 - Adding the Structure II (Full for 2012. Please select another track or join the wait list.)
Track 3 continues to bring in additional training and topics relevant to the practicing biblical counselor, including the use of case studies.
Topics include:
- Idols of the heart
- Working with a physician
- Handling the past biblically
- ADHD
- Hermeneutics
- Finances
- Counseling teens
- How to live with a bitter person
- Video case observation
Track 4 - Advanced Track
This advanced track is designed for those who have taken Tracks 1-3. The array of session topics will vary from year to year according to the relevant counseling issues of the day and the specialties of the instructors.
Track 5 - NANC Certification/Exam track (Full for 2012. Please select another track or join the wait list.)
Since the NANC exams are often a daunting task we have decided to offer one track dedicated solely to the completion of the exams. Students must have had Track 1 from us or from another NANC training center. Not only will lectures be given so that you can understand the core concepts, but time will be given in a computer lab to actually write the exams. If you have a laptop you will want to bring them. This track fills quickly; register early!
Track 6 - Case Study Track
Our case study track is designed for those who want hands-on experience in a non-threatening situation. Throughout the week many different sessions and topics will be presented so that a strong variety of case situations can be discussed. It is also our goal that the learning environment be a combination of instruction by lecture as well as some class participation. Finally, there will be several opportunities for attendees to submit a case to be discussed during the conference. These case submissions must be done in advance.
Case study examples are given for illustrative purposes only. Actual case studies discussed will be determined by the speakers.
