1 Timothy 3:15 - I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

Say it in a Sentence: Growing your faith means fighting for godliness, fixing your hope on Christ your King, and centering your life on the Word so you persevere to the end.

I. The Christian Life Is a Fight for Your Life

1 Timothy 6:11 - But flee from these things, you man of God…

A. By pursuing righteous living, godly conduct, perseverance, and gentleness

1 Timothy 6:11 - …pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.

B. By keeping the commandment until the end

1 Timothy 6:13-14 - I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ…

II. The Christian Life Is Motivated by Our King

A. God gave us life

Colossians 1:16-17 - For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

B. Christ made the good confession

John 14:6 - Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

C. Christ is worthy of our allegiance

D. Only sovereign

1 Timothy 6:15 - …He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords…

E. King of kings and Lord of lords

Romans 14:11 - For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.”

F. Immortality

1 Timothy 6:16 - …who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light…

G. Unapproachable light

1 John 1:5 - …God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

H. Honor and dominion

1 Timothy 6:16 - …To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

III. The Christian Life Is Centered on the Word

1 Timothy 6:20-21 - O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”–which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. Grace be with you.

Pastor Rod Hutton and his wife Kathy have been married for 34 years. They have five children, Chris, Tim, Malia, Grace and Josie. The Hutton’s came to Lafayette on assignment with the Navy to Purdue University which afforded the opportunity to attend Faith Bible Seminary. In 2018, Rod retired from Naval Service and joined the staff to lead the efforts in opening and operating the Northend Community Center and in 2019 he was ordained as a pastor with Faith Church. In 2024, he transitioned to the role as Director, Faith Biblical Counseling Ministries.
