The Gift of Power

Josh Greiner December 20, 2020 Ephesians 3:14-21
Outline

Ephesians 1:18-21 - I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

2 keys to exchange our weakness for God’s power

I. Understand the Gift of God’s Power (v14-17)

A. God’s power is infinite

Ephesians 3:14-16 - For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory…

Philippians 4:19 - And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

B. God’s power is at work in your inner man

Ephesians 3:16b - …to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man…

2 Corinthians 4:16 - Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.

C. God’s power is delivered through the Holy Spirit

D. The purpose of God’s power is that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith

II. Grow in Response to the Gift of God’s Power (v18-21)

A. By comprehending the limitless love of Christ

Ephesians 3:18-19 - …may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge…

B. With all the saints

Ephesians 3:18 - …with all the saints…

Ephesians 3:21 - …to Him be the glory in the church…

Ephesians 4:16 - …from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

C. In Christ-like maturity

Ephesians 3:19 - …that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God…

Ephesians 3:20 - …power that works within us…

Ephesians 4:12-13 - …for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Ephesians 4:15 - …but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ…

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
