Your Heart and the Word of God

Rod Hutton April 27, 2025 Hebrews 6:4-8
Outline

3 understandings that we must have regarding the Word of God and our own hearts

I. Understand Possible Responses to the Ministry of the Word Over Time (vv. 7-8)

Hebrews 6:7-8 - For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.

A. Growing usefulness

B. Hardening worthlessness

II. Understand the Possibility of Being Regularly Exposed to the Glorious Ministry of the Word of God but Truly Never have Believed It (vv. 4-5)

Question 1: To whom is this passage referring?

Question 2: Does this passage teach one can lose their salvation?

Question 3: What is apostasy in this case?

Question 4: What contributes to apostasy?

Question 5: What is genuine saving faith?

III. Understand the Crux of the Issue Is Your View of Jesus and His Work (v. 6)

Hebrews 6:6 - …and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since (while) they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.
