Frequently Asked Questions

Do interns need prior credentials?

No, there is nothing that Vision of Hope requires in the way of credentials or degrees, but we would like all interns to at least be finished with high school.

What is the best way to start the application process to become an intern?

If you are interested in being considered for the Intern program at VOH, please send a copy of your resume and a cover letter stating the reasons you are interested to our Intern Coordinator at voh@faithlafayette.org. If you are simply looking for information, please feel free to contact our office by emailing us or calling us at 765-447-5900.

What kind of training do interns receive?

Interns at Vision of Hope do not receive any formal certification, but throughout their time here they receive weekly training from staff. This training is often given to help interns learn about their own heart so that they can grow in their relationship with God. This, in turn, equips them to be able to serve our residents in a compassionate and God-glorifying way.

Other training is given to instruct interns on how to deal with the different types of crisis situations that arise in the Vision of Hope program. Throughout this internship, there is an emphasis on professional and personal growth and the staff team seeks to help interns reach goals in various areas of their lives. We have served over 75 interns who have gone on to various fields of employment after their time here with us.

What would it look like for someone working on their ACBC certification?

If an intern has her ACBC exams graded and is working on her 50 hours of counseling, we would love to try to help her complete those hours during her internship with us. This is on a case by case basis, so it may not be best for everyone, but will be determined in the interview process as well as during the internship.

Do I need to have a car?

No, a car is not necessary for your internship. You can decide whether or not you would like to have one.

Can I still apply to be an intern if I don't live in the United States?

We welcome international interns and would love to receive an application from you! You will be responsible to secure the appropriate visa for an extended stay in the States as an intern as well as coming up with a plan for medical expenses and insurance.

Are there internships that are less than a year?

We prefer that interns make a year-long commitment to serve Vision of Hope. However, if necessary, we can work with you to make a shorter internship work. If that is the case, our preference is that you commit to a six month internship or a summer internship.

Are there any opportunities to serve after the internship is over?

There are further opportunities to interns after their initial year-long internship at Vision of Hope. One of those opportunities is an internship at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic that partners with VOH. There could also be potential opportunities to extend your Vision of Hope internship for an extra six months if you have a desire to continue learning from the VOH staff team.
